Rubber Base for Gel Polish: What It Is and How to Choose

2 min read

A rubber base is a flexible base layer that goes under gel polish. It adds flexibility, helps prevent chipping and levels itself into a smooth film. Here are the types of rubber base in the FlowMe range and how to choose between them.

Clear rubber base: the universal option

LunaMoon Rubber Base (13 ml and 30 ml) is a universal rubber base for gel polish. It gives a flexible layer that helps prevent chipping and levels into a smooth film. It cures in an LED lamp and is compatible with LED and UV lamps.

Coloured rubber bases: colour without extra gel polish

Coloured rubber bases level the nail surface and add colour at the same time, so no separate gel polish is needed. No transparent base coat is needed underneath: finish with a top coat.

Rubber base under Poly Gel

Some extension systems need a rubber base as a substrate to improve adhesion, for example Moon Full Poly Gel. See all builder gels.

How to choose

  • Want a base under your own colours? Choose a clear rubber base, then apply a gel polish and seal with a top coat.
  • Want colour and decoration in one step? Choose a coloured rubber base and finish with a top coat.
  • Building with Poly Gel? Check the product page for the base it needs.
