Hot Wax for Hair Removal: Step-by-Step Application Technique

2 мин чтения

Hot wax is the professional standard for sensitive areas. Unlike film wax, it wraps around each hair from every side and captures even short hairs from 3mm.

What you'll need

  • Wax heater with temperature control
  • Hot wax beads — for example, Baehr
  • Wooden spatulas (wide and narrow)
  • Pre-depilation lotion
  • Soothing post-treatment cream
  • Disposable sheets and gloves

Step 1: Heat the wax

Load the beads into the wax heater. Optimal hot wax temperature is 40–45°C. Always test the temperature on your wrist before applying to the client. The wax should stretch easily but never burn.

Step 2: Prep the skin

Apply pre-depilation lotion to the treatment area. It degreases the skin and creates a protective barrier — the wax grips only the hair, not the skin.

Step 3: Apply the wax

Using a spatula, apply wax in the direction of hair growth, in a 2–3mm layer. Shape it as a teardrop or rectangle with a thicker edge for gripping. Let the wax set for 20–30 seconds.

Step 4: Removal

Grip the set edge, stretch the skin taut with your free hand, and remove the wax with a swift motion, strictly parallel to the skin (never upward!). The movement should be fast and confident.

Step 5: Finishing the treatment

Apply a soothing cream or aloe gel. Advise the client to avoid sunbeds, saunas, and tight clothing for 24 hours.

Pro tip: if the wax tears on removal, it's too hot or applied too thin. If it won't set, it's too cold. The right working consistency looks like runny honey.
